Railroad Worker Injuries

Due to the hazardous nature of their job, many railroad workers are susceptible to serious injuries. Railroad workers who are injured in the workplace may be left permanently disabled or unable to work as a result of their disabilities.

railroad workerSome railroad workers are injured due to the improper use of railroad ballast in the railyard. When railroad companies fail to use walking ballast in the railyard, it can lead to slips and falls, or chronic injuries to the lower body which may develop over time.

Because many railroad workers are asked to perform the same actions day after day as part of their job duties, some many develop repetitive motion injuries in various parts of their bodies.

Some of the most common types of repetitive motion injuries suffered by railroad workers include tendonitis, bursitis, carpel tunnel syndrome and osteoarthritis.

Other railroad workers may be injured due to toxic exposure to the dangerous chemicals carried on the railroads, which can lead to a number of serious and potentially deadly illnesses, including mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.

The Federal Employees Liability Act (FELA) entitles railroad workers to compensation if they are injured on the job due to unsafe working conditions, inadequate training or equipment, negligence or other safety hazards.

Many workers have filed FELA lawsuits against the railroad companies seeking compensation for their injuries and medical bills.
