December 14, 2009Former railroad engineer files lawsuit against CSX
A former locomotive engineer with CSX has filed a FELA lawsuit against the railroad company, alleging that he developed a degenerative spinal condition from working there. Monty Gregory worked as a railroad engineer for CSX from February 1998 until December 2008 before developing his condition.
According to his lawsuit against CSX, Gregory suffered repetitive traumas during his time on the job, which eventually caused him to develop a degenerative spinal condition. He alleges that CSX failed to provide him with adequately safe equipment and to properly maintain its railroad tracks, causing him to be injured. He is seeking $250,000 in damages.
Gregory filed his lawsuit under the Federal Employers Liability Act, or FELA, which was designed to protect railroad workers and to provide compensation in the event they are injured on the job. According to the Federal Railroad Administration, each year about 7,000 railroad workers are killed, injured or develop occupational illnesses.
